Watauga County Farmers' Market
Saturday Morning October 1
The cold weather is holding off nicely and shoppers at Watauga County Farmers' Market will still find tomatoes, peppers and eggplant right next to fall pumpkins and winter squash. Fog Likely Farm will have plenty of Amish butter this week as well as lots of fall greens, and Roma beans and spinach will be back next week. Zydeco Moon Organic Farm will have a new sweet crop of broccoli, green tomatoes for frying, heirloom tomatoes, braising greens (kale, chard and mustard mix), lettuce mix, mustard mix and delicata, acorn and butternut squash.
This weekend Fire From The Mountain will have Red Leaf, Buttercrunch and Simpson lettuces, pumpkins, butternut and spaghetti squash, chestnuts and of course salsa, hot sauces and BBQ Sauce. New at Faith Mountain Farm is freshly ground flour, the same flour used in their whole grain breads. Fall is also the time for pumpkin muffins and fall decorations of gourds, corn shocks, and pumpkins. Also try the increasingly popular chocolate cashew butter and peanut butter chewy balls.
Blue Ridge Apiaries will have a new batch of creamed honey this Saturday as well as sourwood, wildflower, and infused honeys. Shady Grove Gardens will have large stems of orange winterberry holly and lots of potted herbs including lemon thyme, Rosemary, lavender, mint, garlic chives, orange thyme, and fresh cut cinnamon basil.
Pasta Wench's certified organic farm "Andrea's Organics" will be sharing plenty of fresh basil for sauces to go with her ravioli and pasta offerings this Saturday, along with her homemade fresh Pesto de Panuch.
Vendor of the week: Tom Lowe
Tom and Deb Lowe of Brushy Mountain Orchard will have lots of fresh local apples right up to the end of the market.
The road to the market from 105 Extension suffered severe storm damage but workers hope to have it open for this Saturday's market.
